How to use the ArtWorks Viewer
==============================

Launching the ArtWorks Viewer and displaying ArtWorks files
-----------------------------------------------------------
The ArtWorks Viewer can be launched by double-clicking on the !AWViewer icon in
a Filer window. This installs the AWViewer icon on the icon bar and opens the
AWViewer window showing a start-up screen with copyright notices.

Alternatively, if you do not have a full copy of ArtWorks, double-clicking on
an ArtWorks file in a Filer window is another way of launching the ArtWorks
Viewer. The AWViewer window then shows the file that you double-clicked on.

You can view other ArtWorks files by dragging them to the AWViewer icon on the
icon bar or to the AWViewer window. The ArtWorks Viewer only shows one ArtWorks
file at a time. In order to view multiple ArtWorks files you need to launch
additional copies of the ArtWorks Viewer.

Zooming and panning
-------------------
You can zoom into the file by clicking in the window with the left-hand mouse
button (Select). You can zoom out using the right-hand mouse button (Adjust).
Clicking in the window with the Select or Adjust mouse buttons while holding
down the Ctrl key switches back to the original size (100% scaling).

If the drawing is bigger than the window, you can move it around by holding
down the Alt key and dragging it with the mouse (with either the Select or
Adjust mouse button). While the Alt key is held down, the pointer changes to a
"hand" shape.

View quality
------------
Clicking the middle mouse button (Menu) over the AWViewer icon on the icon bar
or over the AWViewer window displays the AWViewer menu. The submenu labelled
"WYSIWYG" allows you to change the view quality. When you first start the
ArtWorks Viewer, The first entry of the menu, "Anti-Aliased", is ticked. This
setting displays ArtWorks files at maximum quality. Other entries allow you to
display files more quickly but at lower quality: "Normal" switches off
anti-aliasing, a technique to avoid jagged edges of lines and curves. "Simple"
switches off colour graduations and only displays flat colour fills. "Outline",
finally, removes all colour fills and displays wireframes only.

When you drag a new file to the AWViewer icon or the AWViewer window, the
currently chosen WYSIWYG quality setting applies, so you can switch to a lower
setting before loading a very complex file that would otherwise take too long
to render.

Displaying ArtWorks files in third-party applications
-----------------------------------------------------
Having the ArtWorks Viewer installed enables many third-party applications to
display ArtWorks files, for example: OvationPro (by David Pilling), the
Impression family of document processors (by Computer Concepts), PhotoDesk,
OHP2 (both by PhotoDesk Ltd.), EasyClip (by R-Comp) and many others. Please
refer to the documentation of these packages to find out how to embed ArtWorks
files and how to control the view quality.
